About

Seth Schaefer is a Percussionist, Jazz Bassist, and Educator with a wide range of experience in the band and music world. While obtaining his B.M. of Instrumental Music Education at NDSU, he was a part of the NDSU Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Gold Star Marching Band’s drumline, and even spent a season as Drum Major. These ensembles allowed Seth to work with incredible Artists like composer/percussionist Ney Rosauro, and world-famous tuba players, and authors of The Breathing Gym, Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan.

In his time at NDSU, Seth Schaefer held leadership positions including President of the Gold Star Marching Band and Vice President of the GSMB the year prior. This allowed Seth the opportunity to visit local high schools and recruit for future seasons and work close with staff and other leadership to create a smooth and exciting season for all members.

More Information

Seth’s passion for music has brought him across the United States to see masterclasses from the first freelance and ‘profoundly deaf’ percussionist in the world, Evelyn Glennie, to one of the greatest bassists alive today, Victor Wooten. The NDSU Wind Symphony has also allowed Seth to travel the globe and share his music in Eastern Europe. Seth Schaefer was part of the first American ensemble to ever perform in the Spanish Hall at the Prague Castle.

Seth has been a part of many pit orchestras for musicals including Godspell, Grease, and A Christmas Story. He has spent time in the local music scene in Fargo as a jazz and rock bassist playing with small jazz combos and his band Walker Rider.

Seth Schaefer was the Theodore Presser Scholar at NDSU in 2019 and received other awards like the Orville Eidem Jazz Alive Award and has received scholarships through the Gold Star Band’s Alumni association.
